Family time!

I'm so excited that my parents are coming here tomorrow! We're actually all going to Palm Springs for the weekend to relax! My parents will be playing golf and my sister and I will probably lounge around and get massages. :)

I'm actually also visiting Austin at the beginning of April! Since I'm not coming back till August, I thought it'd be cool to drop by halfway and say hi to all my friends. Plus, I desperately miss some good BBQ.

Last night, UTLA hosted a networking mixer for the music industry. Producers, musicians, and managers came out for us to mingle with!

Anyone excited for spring break?! I'm not sure if I'm getting work off for my break. I'm going to try to get at least 2 days off though. If not, I'll just have to wait till April!

Just a hilarious video off of youtube:

Almost halfway...

I don't like to complain...but I'm so tired! I was starting to fall asleep while reading some scripts at work today. My friend and I were contemplating sleeping in our cars during our lunch break. In addition to working all day and having class at night, I've been waking up at 6 AM to go work out. The gyms are really small at the apartments so it's really packed at night. But at least I start off the day on the right foot.

Even though I've been really tired, I'm never been so pumped about the entertainment industry. I've been learning so much from the best of the best. Last week, we had a guest speaker from a huge studio (shrek anyone?) who was a total inspiration for me. Being an intern is definitely tough in this industry, but I definitely want to be in his position one day. Today we got to go to the Universal lot to talk with the VFX and audio departments that work on the show Battlestar Galactica. All of our guest speakers are so accredited that it's truly surreal to even be able to have a conversation with them. I can't wait to see what the second half of the program brings!

Who watched the Oscars?! I loved them this year. Even though it still ran long, I enjoyed Hugh Jackman's dancing and the 5 speakers for Best and Supporting presentations. Hollywood was completely shut down for the red carpet. I actually went down there to get a look at it. I'll post some pictures of it on a later post. It was so crowded that i didn't stay long, but I did get to see Emile Hirsch. :)

LA is for Lovers

Hope everyone had a great weekend! My roommates ended up making snickerdoodle cookies that had some bad decorations on them:

Thank you to everyone who voted for our film in the McCombs Next Top Major competition! We find out the results on Wednesday!!

I can't believe I'm recruiting again! It's time to look for those summer internships. I'm hoping to get a good one out here since I'm here already. I need to update my resume with my internships that I have right now! I'm also hoping to get a job at McCombs next year so I can start saving money for after graduation.

Next Sunday is the Oscars!!! I'm so excited! I'm planning on going down to Hollywood early to watch some of the red carpet action! I'm hoping to see Brangelina and Kate Winslet! I'll update later on how that goes!

The Grammys

The Grammys are on tonight! Even though I don't tend to like award shows, I always end up watching them for those special performances or funny speeches. My roomie and I went to the Staples Center earlier today to try to catch the red carpet. Unluckily they kept the red carpet hidden by the convention center. Lame.

This weekend has actually been rainy and cold so I ended up staying inside most of time. It was actually pretty good timing because I had a lot of stuff to work on. I had to read 2 scripts, write 2 essays, write 1 coverage, and read 3 chapters for class. Hopefully my weekends won't always be like this. :(

McComb's Next Top Major begins tomorrow!!! If you go to http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/nexttopmajor, you can watch all the videos in each major and vote!!! My group is called RPM Films and we're under the Supply Chain Management category. You can vote all week long till next Sunday!

Heroes

This weekend was pretty fun! My roomies and I went to Venice Beach to watch the sunset and caught up with our long-time friend from San Diego.

Yesterday for our Music Industry class, Adrian Pasdar and Greg Grunberg from the show Heroes came to speak to us about their acting careers and their band, Band from TV. They were such nice and hilarious guys! I've been watching that show for 3 seasons now so it was awesome to actually see them up close and ask them questions.

Tonight for my Post-production and Editing class, we're going to take a tour of an editing studio and get the scoop of what goes down after shooting a show.

My Directing class is canceled for this week but we need to shoot a scene by next week from our scripts that we've made. It should be pretty fun with the equipment we've been given!

Speaking of filming, the McComb's Next Top Major Competition is due tomorrow! My group and I are in the Supply Chain Management category and we filmed everything during winter break before I left for L.A. My group mates have been so great working on the editing and it's almost good to go! I feel bad for not being there to help out on the last leg of the project but I have faith that it'll be awesome! So everyone better vote for us! I believe online voting is going to open next week and the top two from each category will move on to Round 2! I'm not going to lie though, this competition was harder than expected. It's a lot of information that we had to cram into 3 minutes so I'm hoping it all makes sense! I guess we'll see when it airs next week.

A note on my internships...I got to make my first pitch yesterday in front of the executive producers! It was a quick one but they agreed with what I had to say so it was a success in my opinion! I was pretty nervous but I'm hoping I'll get better at it each week.

Actually, reading all these scripts makes me want to pen one. One of my roommates and I have been thinking of actually writing a feature film or even a TV pilot. It'll probably take a really long time seeing that full scripts are about 120 pages.
