Going out with a cough

Sorry for the lack of posts! I'm finally done with all exams and I've been resting this week, nursing myself back to health. I've actually been feeling a lot better but then my throat has been getting sore again.

And now I will begin my rant on plus/minus grading system. I knew going into it that this could hurt or help me depending on what type of classes I'm taking. Of course for people who usually make 90's and above, this was going to be a pain in the butt to start getting 94's. The main problem I see with implementing this system is how each teacher was using it differently. It doesn't seem fair that one class disregards A- while another class implements it in the same course implements it. I also wish they would've just started this system with the incoming freshmen instead of making us change during our time here. Overall, this system will have hurt my GPA and has created more stress in hoping that my teachers round to the nearest whole number to get that A.

In other news, I got a BCS Championship ticket to Pasadena!! I'm not sure if I'm going yet though because the plane tickets are getting pricey. My friends and I need to make a decision pretty quick!

Other than that, I don't have any other significant winter break plans. I'll be in Dallas most of the time with my family! I hope all of you guys have a great break and HOOK EM HORNS!

Last week of school and I'm sick again!

Happy late Thanksgiving! I had a nice long week trying to recover from a cold I had starting on Tuesday. I decided to stay in Austin this year because I really dreaded the drive to Dallas. Luckily, 9 of my other good friends stayed behind so we ended up having a potluck dinner on Thursday. It went amazingly well and my pumpkin pies were a hit! I literally spent that whole day baking, watching the Cowboys game, then watching the UT game. After resting for couple of hours, my friends and I went to Best Buy at midnight to start lining up for Black Friday. It actually wasn't as cold as I thought it would be and the time went by relatively fast. I ended up buying a PS3 bundle and a bunch of blu-ray dvds! I'm so excited to play and watch everything during winter break!

I wish I wasn't sick during the break because I couldn't focus on my studies. I started getting a fever and ended up napping most of the weekend away. I have two midterms this Thursday but I'm hoping I can get my stuff together tonight and start off the week strong!

Today I also got my Big XII championship ticket email! I'm not sure yet if I'm going to go to the game this Saturday but I'm very tempted. I also applied for the BCS championship game in Pasadena so hopefully we'll be able to make it!

We Won! Part 2

My co-ed football team won championships for IM football this past Sunday! We are back-to-back champions and it's a great way to end my IM football career. I got to catch the game-winning touchdown so that was the cherry on top!

I can't wait for today to be over! I just had my first presentation for my MKT 372 class and I have my MKT 460 in an hour. The first one was about our social project that we did and how we grew as a person. My group volunteered with the City of Austin and their Green City Festival. I made this video that summarized what we did:

In other news, New Moon is coming out this Friday! I'm pretty excited for this one because the graphics look so much better. This actually wasn't my favorite book out of the whole Twilight series but I think it'll still be great. Plus I love Kristen Stewart and her previous movies.

IM Women Champions!!!

We won! We won! We won!

My women's football team won our championship game tonight 19-0! We won our semis last night 27-6! It feels amazing to be #1 especially since we had some tough competition throughout the season. It's also awesome to know that we are the first team this school year to receive our champions t-shirt. I will definitely be wearing it for the rest of this week!

ForTheLOLs after our semis win:

Champions!

My coed team also won in our semis tonight over ABSA and we'll be playing in the championship this Sunday!

My birthday was also this past weekend so I am now officially 22. I really do feel a difference this time around. All of my future responsibilities of finding a job and having to leave school flashed before my eyes. I still had a great birthday with my friends though! I've never been to Mt. Bonnell so we went to watch the sunset and got some delicious sushi at Mikado afterwards.

This week has been the start of mock interviews for the BA 101 classes. I've already worked three sessions this week but I've had a great time getting to talk with different students. It was also nice to brush up on my interviewing skills by listening to how other students answered their questions. Hopefully some of my pointers will help them in future interviews!

Alright time to go to sleep! What a long day...

Violent Times

My heart goes out to all the victims and family members who were involved in the Fort Hood and Orlando shootings. It's sad to see that these events happened back-to-back. With my birthday coming up tomorrow, I am truly reminded of how precious and unpredictable life can be. There is no guarantee of a tomorrow and I hope to live each day with a purpose.

IM Playoffs and Careers Week!

IM football playoffs have officially started and my women's team won today 14-13! We are in the semis and we play again next Tuesday. My coed team plays our first game this Wednesday!

How was everyone's Halloween weekend? I was a party pooper and didn't dress up this year. I did watch Paranormal Activity with a group of friends though. It had some pretty creepy scenes but it wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be. They didn't have a lot of money to make it with so I have to give them credit for pulling it off so well!

I am NOT tired.

What a crazy weekend! Starting on Thursday night, I went to the Colbie Caillat/Howie Day concert at Stubb's. It was a really chill concert but I had to leave a bit early to go catch a movie at the Austin Film Festival. My friend and I saw Michael Cera's new movie, Youth in Revolt. It was really funny and a great movie to kick off the festival. On Saturday, I also went to a couple of panels at the Driskill Hotel. I went to "How to write Love Stories/Romantic Comedies" and "Script to Screen: Watchmen". The screen writer for Watchmen was the speaker and he was hilarious! Later that day, I went to the Paramount theater to listen to Ron Howard, Mitchell Hurwitz, and Steve Zaillian. I love Arrested Development so it was awesome to see Mitchell Hurwitz talking about the movie that they're making for it. Then yesterday, my friend and I went to watch a Japanese film called Happy Ending. The festival doesn't end till Thursday night so I still have a few more movies to watch till then!

On top of the film festival, I have a test this Thursday for MKT 460. It's over regression analysis...my favorite. :(

I'm also working on my application for the DGA Trainee Program for after graduation. One of the essay questions asks about a hardship I went through in life. I've always hated that question. Hopefully my answer won't be too cliche.

The regular season for IM football has ended and playoffs are just around the corner! My co-ed team went 4-0 while my women's team is 3-1. Hopefully I can win 2 championships this semester. Am I being too selfish??

What an Awesome Weekend!

I had so much fun this weekend in Dallas! My whole football group made the trip up and we had a blast eating and playing Friday and Saturday. The game was such a tease as it kept going back and forth but we came out of it on top and that's all that matters! The state fair also had some of the weirdest fried foods but they were pretty much all delicious! I probably gained a good 5 lbs this weekend so this week will be dedicated for detoxing. It's funny to look around in class and see everyone's sun tan! My friends and I put decorative stickers on our faces so now we are branded with Texas logos. I have a longhorn on my cheek. :P

Competing for some fried butter:

School spirit:

Big Tex:

Celebration Time:

Of course we had corny dogs:

My football group :)

Thankfully, my MKT 460 class pushed back their test to next week so I only have a LEB test this Thursday!

Also this Thursday, the Austin Film Festival is starting and I got my badge last week. This is the first time I'm going to AFF so hopefully it'll be a good one!

It's 9:38 AM and OU still sucks!!

Whee! It's finally here! The OU game is this weekend and I'm leaving today after my classes to bear the traffic on I-35! I can't wait to go to the state fair and eat all the unnecessary fat that they offer. I hear this year's creative award is fried butter. That should be very interesting to try. I also hear fried snickers are amazing! It's also going to be a good time going back home to visit my family and not worry so much about school.

I hope everyone drives safely to Dallas and back! It's going to be a fun game! Hook 'em!

Where are all my jackets?

Brrrrr! This weekend has been unexpectedly chilly. I was looking through my closet and noticed that I didn't bring many jackets from home. Thankfully I'm going back home this weekend for the OU game!!! I'm so pumped! This is my first and probably last Red River Shootout! We better win or I will not come home a happy camper!!

I'm hoping I can leave in the early afternoon on Thursday. I'm going to move around my schedule so I can go to earlier classes so I can try to avoid as much traffic as possible. I have one test the week after but it's not until Thursday so I should be alright.

Did anyone watch The Office wedding episode?? Jim and Pam are adorable! Andy and Kevin are hilarious!!

A rainy ACL

ACL was pretty crazy this past weekend! I went on Saturday...the one day it poured all day! The whole park turned into a huge mud field and I almost wiped out a couple of times. I decided to throw away my sneakers at the end of the day because they got completely destroyed by the mud. Even though it rained pretty hard, I had a blast listening to new bands like STS9 and Jonathan Tyler. Of course, Mute Math was hands down the most entertaining of them all. ;)

This week in MKT 460, our group proposal for our research project is due. We decided to survey students about their thoughts on how the business school has been allocating its money. Writing good survey questions is a lot harder than I thought it would be! Hopefully our project will turn out well and maybe we can try proposing our findings to McCombs.

Golf has been getting really fun! In the next 2 weeks, I have to play 4 rounds of Par 3 courses. I can't wait until we can bust out the drivers and long irons within the next month!

OU weekend is coming up!!! We finally get our tickets starting this Thursday. I hope my group gets pretty good seats! I'm really excited to eat all the fried foods as well. My friend says the best is the fried snickers so I'll have to check that out. Other must haves: corn dog, funnel cake, turkey leg, fried pickles, fried ice cream. I should probably go on a diet these next 2 weeks to compensate for all the food in that one day!

Here's Mute Math again...Watch till the end to watch the craziness!

Is this Senioritis?

I have my first test in MKT 460 tomorrow and I'm taking my time out to write this entry. I don't know if it's senioritis or if it's because I'm pretty confident with statistics. Either way, I should try my best so I don't surprised by a challenging test.

Today in my Creativity and Leadership marketing class, we split into groups of 3 and told each other a problem we were going through in real life. Then we would help give each other an "alternate reality" in that situation. For the next week, we're supposed to live in that alternate reality and see how things change accordingly. It was a pretty interesting activity as I got 2 new and fresh perspectives on the problem I was facing. It'll be interesting to see how my alternate reality plays out this week!

I also just finished playing my first intramural football game with my women's team. We didn't get to play last week because of the rain but we had no trouble winning today 42-0. Our co-ed team has another game this Sunday! IM soccer is starting up tomorrow so I might be playing on a team for that.

In BA 101, we just taught the students about using OCR and the other job search engines. I've mainly stuck with McCombs Job Board and Access UT since OCR doesn't really post anything in entertainment. Speaking of which, I should start looking for work next semester since I'm only taking 1 more class to graduate!

Alright, well I should start studying for my test now. After the test tomorrow, I'm free!

P.S. Jim and Pam on The Office are finally getting married!!!

Mighty Fine

Has anyone tried Mighty Fine before? I just had their burgers and shakes today and it was awesome! I haven't tried P. Terry's yet but that's next on my list!

This weekend has been pretty fun. I finally went to a UT football game on Saturday. It was a blowout and was scorching hot. My group left towards the end of the 2nd quarter when we got that amazing one-handed touchdown!

I had my first LEB test last week and I did alright on it. I should've gotten a better score as I kept changing some of my answers but I'm in a good position for the next one. I have a MKT 460 test coming up this Thursday. We've been dong a lot of statistics with hypothesis testing so hopefully I'll be alright with that one.

ACL is also coming up this next weekend!!! Hopefully the weather will be a bit cooler than it was this weekend.

Paramore is coming out with a new CD this Tuesday! Here's them covering Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody".

IM Football...Yes Please!

How was everyone's weekend? I didn't end up going to the Texas Tech game because I sold my ticket but hooray for winning! I cannot wait for OU! I'm definitely making the trek up to Dallas with my friends for that one.

Speaking of football, intramural season has started and my coed team is 2-0! I'm also playing in a women's team and our first game is this Wednesday. Hopefully we can win 2 t-shirts this year. I might also be playing IM soccer and that starts next week!

I've always been pretty competitive and this semester is capitalizing on that. I'm also starting to make a group to play trivia at Pluckers every Wednesday night. It's going to be awesome eating wings and spitting out useless facts almost every week!

Tomorrow we're doing our "fashion show" for the BA101 classes. I'm going to model as the bad business casual dresser. Honestly I'm glad I'm the bad dresser because there's definitely more pressure modeling as the good example. Hopefully I won't look too bad though!

ACL is coming up in less than 2 weeks! I'm going to be there on Saturday and cannot wait for Mute Math!!

TIme to get crackin'

My voice is almost completely back. I've realized how much I miss singing this past week as I can't really hit high notes yet. Hopefully by the end of this week my vocal chords will be completely healed.

Did anyone watch the VMA's last night?! I'm not surprised that Kanye West did what he did. I'm just more surprised that it happened to Taylor Swift. She is probably one of the sweetest celebrities in the industry right now. It was really hard to watch her take that blow. Also the Twilight cast finally released the full theatrical trailer for New Moon. It looks like it'll be filled with a lot more action than the first one! I'm definitely excited about that one!

I'm really starting to like my LEB class. My professor is hilarious and he makes the class go by quickly. I'm surprised that I find this class interesting because I've never really enjoyed law and court cases. My other classes are very enjoyable as well. In MKT 460, we've been assigned a group project where we need to collect data on college students. My group hasn't decided our topic yet but it should be fun working with each other.

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

No cheese please

I'm putting myself to vocal rest now. My voice is coming back now but I'm trying to speed up the process. I've cut dairy products out of my diet and I've been trying to drink hot water with honey every night. I really hope it'll be back by Friday! I think I freak people out in class when I talk because they don't want to get sick. I promise I'm not sick anymore!

...and now I lost my voice

What a great way to spend my Labor Day weekend! I hate it when I completely lose my voice. Even worse, I'm running really low on texts so I can't even communicate to people properly. I've been carrying around a notepad so I can write everything out instead. I hope I can regain my voice by Tuesday. I might not even make it out to the recruiting events because of my illness. Bah humbug.

So being sick and all, I had to miss the game tonight against ULM. I was really looking forward to going with my friends. Instead I stayed home and cooked some pasta from a box. It ended up tasting too much like bacon. I'm going to stick with mac and cheese next time.

I'm starting on an assignment for my creativity and leadership class (MKT 372). It's a really interesting class as it deals with your personality and the human condition. The assignment is basically an autobiography on major events that shaped who you are today. I've never really wrote down my life story before so this should be really interesting.

Other than that...WHERE ARE YOU, VOICE?!?

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

I'm not sick...

Only a week in and I'm sick! I think I'm getting better after sweating it out but I woke up to body fevers and a sore throat today. Honestly, the first thing I did was looking up H1N1 flu symptoms. You've got to be prepared for the worse!

My classes are going really well right now! I'm enjoying all of my professors and their lectures are very interesting. Tomorrow's my first day at the golf range for class! We're starting off with putting and working our way into full swings. I've played golf a little before college but this will definitely help me become a better player.

Speaking of sports, intramural season is starting!! I'm playing football with Coed C and Women's league. I'm also playing in Coed soccer. It's going to be a hectic athletic season but I'm ready! We are defending football champions (find me in the Gregory pictures!).

I can't believe recruiting starts next week!! Careers 24 starts off with the Career Expo! There's a lot of events being crammed into a couple of days so make you keep your eyes and ears open for these opportunities!

And here's some Paramore!

The Prodigal Longhorn has returned...

After a long 8 months, I'm back in Austin for another fall semester! I've been living and interning in Los Angeles and participating in the UTLA program in the spring. For the summer, I stayed in L.A. with my sister and fulfilled my marketing internship credit. I really wanted to update this thing during the summer but the studio I was working for had a no blogging policy. But now I'm back and ready to get my senior year rolling!

This year so far has been a crazy ride! I've learned so much about the entertainment industry through my internships and have fallen in love with it. I can't really imagine doing anything else after I graduate. I'm pretty much certain that I'm going to move out to L.A. after this year is over! Of course, I have mixed feelings about leaving college itself. UT has been a blast so far and I'm sure this year won't be any different! I really want to take advantage of every opportunity I have left this year!

My course schedule looks pretty good this semester. I'm technically taking 14 hours, but 3 of those hours are for the internship I did over the summer. I'm also taking golf for my P.E. class so that should be a lot of fun. The other classes I'm taking are: MKT 372 (Creativity), MKT 460, and LEB 323.

I'm also excited about being a Peer Career Mentor for this year! If you're in BA 101 this year, I'll be in Melissa Martinez's class on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.

If this is the first time you're reading my blog, feel free to ask or leave me any comments! My blogs tend to be kind of sporadic and I usually end it with a youtube clip like this one:

Summer time!

I've moved out of the Oakwoods and now I'm living at my sister's place! Space is a little tight but we'll make it work. I'm super excited to start my summer internship in June! Hopefully I'll have a lot of fun working on press junkets and marketing ideas for movies coming out within the next couple of months!

Speaking of movies, wasn't Star Trek AMAZING?!? I think it's one of my all time favorites now. I've never watched that series before but J.J. Abrams did an amazing job on it. Now I'm looking forward to Transformers 2 and Harry Potter 6! Don't you just love sequels? :P

I hope everyone did well on finals and have a great summer! I'll be back in Austin in August...ready to blog about my senior year. Crazy!

Can you feel the HEAT?

I'm typing this during my lunch break...sweating.

It's the Mother's day show today and we're giving away a bunch of giveaways. The only problem is that everything is outdoors and it just happens to be one of the hottest days in L.A. I'm really happy for these mothers but I'm a bit gross right now. :P

Yesterday I got to do one of the coolest things ever. There's a show on USA Network called Character Fantasy and I got to be on it! They made me into a dirtbiker! It was so much harder than I thought. I've never learned how to use clutch until now. They took me to Hungry Valley and got me all geared up to go. The episode airs sometime in June. I'll update more once I know.

So since school is over, I've been having more free time! I'm definitely going to try to go to the beach tomorrow to capitalize on this heat. I also want to read the books I bought this semester. When I was packing all my stuff, I realized I bought so many and haven't read any of them! Besides that, I'm getting ready to start my summer internship. It's been kind of frustrating talking with the marketing department for more info through email/phone. I wish I could just talk to them in person since the process would go much faster. I guess that's what I get for coming to L.A. for this long!

Anyways, good luck everyone on their finals!

AH One More Day!

Tomorrow is the last official day of UTLA! To celebrate, the program is buying us dinner in Malibu! Too bad I still need to finish my paper tonight!

Today at work, it was our 1000th episode! That's quite a lot in the industry. We got to have catered breakfast and catered lunch. I definitely feel a few pounds heavier. I also witnessed Heidi Klum and Portia De Rossi eating carbs! Hahaha!

Here's a pic with some of the other interns celebrating with our catered meals!

Well I need to move out of our apartments by next Wednesday so I should probably start packing this weekend. I also need to go hiking to the Hollywood sign since it's like a mile away from where we live. I'm sad this is coming to an end so soon. I am staying in L.A. for the summer so hopefully I'll still meet up with a lot of the people in the program.

Here's a pic of our program at Dockweiler Beach last Sunday:

Last week of UTLA

This is our last week of classes! I need to start preparing for my finals. In Creative Development class, we have to write a full length treatment on our movies that we've adapted from our previous assignment. It's a little bit crazy how I made a full length movie from a workbook! For our music class, we have to pitch a musical act to our teacher and why he should sign them. I'm going to be playing a song with my friend and pitch ourselves! We have yet to rehearse so that will be interesting. I also need to put together my final packet for the internship class. I just got my evaluations from my supervisors and I need to tidy my journals.

Anyways, I got my summer internship approved by McCombs! Hooray! Looks like I'm good to go for that. I'm planning on starting May 18th, so I won't have a lot of down time after this program is over.

Tomorrow is one of our last UTLA events. We're going to be grilling bbq at the beach and have a bonfire! I'm sure I'll have a lot of pictures from that later! Alright, well time to study so I can play tomorrow!

P.S. Demi Lovato was recently on the show...I think she's the most talented Disney star right now:

I love having senior status!

This is the first semester where I got all my classes on the first try! Registration only took me 3 minutes and it was amazing. It was a good thing too b/c I had to leave for work right after. Here's my schedule:

I also added Golf on TTH 9-10:30! I'm so excited to get back into the groove of things next year!

So this past Sunday, our program bought us tickets to Disneyland! We went there from 9 AM - 8 PM. I truly felt like a kid again and it was nice to escape into that mentality!

The program is coming to a close and I need to start working on my final exams! I'm so excited for this week's Directing class though. All of the groups will be presenting their first cut of the short films we've been working on. It'll be awesome to get to watch what everyone has been working on!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

3 Weeks Left

I can't believe this program is almost over! I think everyone is trying to squeeze as much fun out of these few weeks left. This Friday, we might go to the beach and have a bonfire! Then on Sunday the whole program is going to Disneyland for free!

For our Creative class yesterday, we had to make movie pitches to our teacher. I adapted my movie from a workbook called The Artist's Way. It was challenging to create an entire movie based off a workbook but I pulled it off! Maybe I'll actually write an entire screenplay for it this summer.

Tonight is our final Pursuing an Acting Career class! The guest speakers so far have been fun so I'm sure tonight will be no exception.

Friday, April 10, 2009

Happy Easter Weekend!

Yay! Our offices just told us it's a half day today! I'm planning on going over to my sister's place tonight and hang with her. It's a bit chilly in L.A. so maybe we'll just catch a movie. Speaking of movies, I saw Adventureland last weekend and I really enjoyed it! It was the first movie I saw where I read the script before. It was fun to see how the actors played out the scenes and how the director interpreted the shots. I definitely thought Kristen Stewart had a great performance and it's making me excited for her role in New Moon.

This weekend, we are having our wrap party for Werewolves Are American. There's nothing better than celebrating with a game of kickball and a day in the park! The rough cut of the film is finished and I'm dying to see it.

Hope everyone has a good Easter weekend! I'm kind of tempted to buy myself a huge chocolate bunny on Sunday. :)

P.S. This song is addicting:

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

It's a Wrap!

We finished filming all our scenes for Werewolves Are American last night! It was a crazy race to the end as we were running against the clock, but we got our last scene barely in! I'm excited to see it all unravel in post-production. Our final cut of the film is due April 29th, which is our last class day!

Back in Austin!

Yeehaw! It's good to be back in Austin, Y'ALL!

I had my yummy first meal at Madam Mam's. Then I walked to the business school and saw like 10 of my friends along the way. It's awesome to be able to see everyone again. It's also weird to be on campus but not having anything to study. I think I'm going to spend tonight at DT and go to Mt. Bonnell, the Capitol, and Rudy's tomorrow!

I feel bad for not being in L.A. this Saturday though. Our film is shooting all day and I can't help them out. But I will be there for the final shoot next Monday with our big werewolf ending.

Some stills from our first day of shooting:

Oh and when I visited Melissa at the Career Services office, I saw a sign about getting free cupcakes for surveys!! I'm so JEALOUS that they're not doing it this week. So everyone make sure to participate when it happens!

Werewolves are American

I'm so excited for this Saturday! We are shooting our short film "Werewolves are American". This is my first "real" short film I've been apart of. I'm producing it and it's been a pain in the butt, but I'm really pumped to see it get made. It's like seeing your child perform at a recital...or something like that. We finished casting all the actors yesterday and we're going through the final call sheet tonight with the crew. I'll definitely try to post the finished product on here when we're done with post-production and editing.

So yesterday I got to see Halle Berry! She is even more gorgeous in person. I was walking backstage and looked up and it was her! I think I was just smiling really hard and she smiled back. It totally made my day.

I'm going to be in Austin in less than a week! How crazy is that?!

Oh and the course schedule came out for the fall semester! It feels so weird to think of regular classes. I know I need to take MKT 460 and LEB 323. I'll probably throw in a MKT elective in that mix. I also need to sign up at ACC for my last history class.

Meet my fellow intern friends!

P.S. Shout out to Taeyoung! haha

Another Spring Break completed

I'm sad to hear that UT lost to Duke yesterday. I missed the game because I actually went to see Korea vs. Venezuela for the World Baseball Classic semifinals. Korea won so we're in the finals!

During the week, my friend and I went to see the red carpet premiere for the movie "Adventureland". I got to read the script at work so I'm really excited to watch it!

I'm going to be going to Austin in less than 2 weeks! I'm so excited to see everyone again! Oh and I've decided to eat at Rudy's, Madam Mam's, and Austin Java so far. Haha! There goes my diet...

Oh and also I got that marketing internship in the summer set up in L.A.! I'll be promoting movies that will be coming out! It should be a really fun internship so I'm pumped! I'll also be trying to get a second internship just for kicks.

Spring Break! Sort of...

How is everyone's spring break going along? I'm still working two days this week but it's still nice to have some days off! All I want to do is go to coffee shops and read some books. I'm kind of glad I'm not vacationing or doing anything crazy. It's relaxing to just vegetate and not think about anything for just a little bit until the work week starts again.

Our movie for the directing class is gaining legs! I think we just need to cast one more kid to get the full cast and crew settled. I locked down our locations so we just need to make our props and costumes next week! Hopefully this movie will be a lot of fun because right now it's a pain!

Last week, one of my internship companies hosted an "Intern Night". Our Executive Producer and the VPs bought us dinner and had a Q&A session. It was definitely a great time to pick the brains of these successful producers in the film industry. I got a lot of wisdom out of it and more motivation in the direction I want to go. I think my goal is going to be line producing so we'll see where that goes!

Alrighty...well I'm watching the first season of Dawson's Creek right now. It's hilarious because this show was on 10 years ago and their hair/clothes are so different from shows like Gossip Girl.

Oh and have you listened to Kelly Clarkson's new album? UH-MAZ-ING

Oops!

Sorry for the lack of updates this past week. It's been getting a bit hectic around here!

So last weekend I went to Palm Springs with my family to spend some good quality time together. My parents went golfing while my sister and I just relaxed and got some Swedish massages! It felt so amazing on my aching muscles! Palm Springs is beautiful as well. It reminds me of Hawaii but without the ocean.

I had my midterm for the music class this past Monday. We had to listen to 18 songs and write about the lyrics, musical production, artist's vision, etc. It was a really cool test, especially since there's no right or wrong answer!

My midterm for the creative/development class is next Monday. This one is going to be a bit harder I believe. I need to read half of the book this weekend and prepare for the worst!

Directing class has been fun but time consuming! I'm a producer for one of the short films we're making, Werewolves are American. It's been great getting an idea of how a movie works while working with the director and the rest of the crew. Being a producer is bit stressful though. I've been trying to coordinate the location shooting, crew information, and other random tasks. I'm excited to see the final product though!

I had an interview last week with a major studio for a marketing position and I think it went really well! I need to keep applying for more summer internships. My resume needs a face lift though.

Watchmen came out today but I'm hearing bad reviews so I'll probably just stay home tonight and try to catch up on reading and resume surgery.

Family time!

I'm so excited that my parents are coming here tomorrow! We're actually all going to Palm Springs for the weekend to relax! My parents will be playing golf and my sister and I will probably lounge around and get massages. :)

I'm actually also visiting Austin at the beginning of April! Since I'm not coming back till August, I thought it'd be cool to drop by halfway and say hi to all my friends. Plus, I desperately miss some good BBQ.

Last night, UTLA hosted a networking mixer for the music industry. Producers, musicians, and managers came out for us to mingle with!

Anyone excited for spring break?! I'm not sure if I'm getting work off for my break. I'm going to try to get at least 2 days off though. If not, I'll just have to wait till April!

Just a hilarious video off of youtube:

Almost halfway...

I don't like to complain...but I'm so tired! I was starting to fall asleep while reading some scripts at work today. My friend and I were contemplating sleeping in our cars during our lunch break. In addition to working all day and having class at night, I've been waking up at 6 AM to go work out. The gyms are really small at the apartments so it's really packed at night. But at least I start off the day on the right foot.

Even though I've been really tired, I'm never been so pumped about the entertainment industry. I've been learning so much from the best of the best. Last week, we had a guest speaker from a huge studio (shrek anyone?) who was a total inspiration for me. Being an intern is definitely tough in this industry, but I definitely want to be in his position one day. Today we got to go to the Universal lot to talk with the VFX and audio departments that work on the show Battlestar Galactica. All of our guest speakers are so accredited that it's truly surreal to even be able to have a conversation with them. I can't wait to see what the second half of the program brings!

Who watched the Oscars?! I loved them this year. Even though it still ran long, I enjoyed Hugh Jackman's dancing and the 5 speakers for Best and Supporting presentations. Hollywood was completely shut down for the red carpet. I actually went down there to get a look at it. I'll post some pictures of it on a later post. It was so crowded that i didn't stay long, but I did get to see Emile Hirsch. :)

LA is for Lovers

Hope everyone had a great weekend! My roommates ended up making snickerdoodle cookies that had some bad decorations on them:

Thank you to everyone who voted for our film in the McCombs Next Top Major competition! We find out the results on Wednesday!!

I can't believe I'm recruiting again! It's time to look for those summer internships. I'm hoping to get a good one out here since I'm here already. I need to update my resume with my internships that I have right now! I'm also hoping to get a job at McCombs next year so I can start saving money for after graduation.

Next Sunday is the Oscars!!! I'm so excited! I'm planning on going down to Hollywood early to watch some of the red carpet action! I'm hoping to see Brangelina and Kate Winslet! I'll update later on how that goes!

The Grammys

The Grammys are on tonight! Even though I don't tend to like award shows, I always end up watching them for those special performances or funny speeches. My roomie and I went to the Staples Center earlier today to try to catch the red carpet. Unluckily they kept the red carpet hidden by the convention center. Lame.

This weekend has actually been rainy and cold so I ended up staying inside most of time. It was actually pretty good timing because I had a lot of stuff to work on. I had to read 2 scripts, write 2 essays, write 1 coverage, and read 3 chapters for class. Hopefully my weekends won't always be like this. :(

McComb's Next Top Major begins tomorrow!!! If you go to http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/nexttopmajor, you can watch all the videos in each major and vote!!! My group is called RPM Films and we're under the Supply Chain Management category. You can vote all week long till next Sunday!

Heroes

This weekend was pretty fun! My roomies and I went to Venice Beach to watch the sunset and caught up with our long-time friend from San Diego.

Yesterday for our Music Industry class, Adrian Pasdar and Greg Grunberg from the show Heroes came to speak to us about their acting careers and their band, Band from TV. They were such nice and hilarious guys! I've been watching that show for 3 seasons now so it was awesome to actually see them up close and ask them questions.

Tonight for my Post-production and Editing class, we're going to take a tour of an editing studio and get the scoop of what goes down after shooting a show.

My Directing class is canceled for this week but we need to shoot a scene by next week from our scripts that we've made. It should be pretty fun with the equipment we've been given!

Speaking of filming, the McComb's Next Top Major Competition is due tomorrow! My group and I are in the Supply Chain Management category and we filmed everything during winter break before I left for L.A. My group mates have been so great working on the editing and it's almost good to go! I feel bad for not being there to help out on the last leg of the project but I have faith that it'll be awesome! So everyone better vote for us! I believe online voting is going to open next week and the top two from each category will move on to Round 2! I'm not going to lie though, this competition was harder than expected. It's a lot of information that we had to cram into 3 minutes so I'm hoping it all makes sense! I guess we'll see when it airs next week.

A note on my internships...I got to make my first pitch yesterday in front of the executive producers! It was a quick one but they agreed with what I had to say so it was a success in my opinion! I was pretty nervous but I'm hoping I'll get better at it each week.

Actually, reading all these scripts makes me want to pen one. One of my roommates and I have been thinking of actually writing a feature film or even a TV pilot. It'll probably take a really long time seeing that full scripts are about 120 pages.

The Fabolous Life of...

It's Wednesday which means that it's halfway to the weekend! Hurray!

Let me get one thing straight. Everyone assumes that because I'm working in the entertainment industry I'm having a complete blast out here. Although there are some perks, it's completely not as glamorous as it seems to be. I've definitely learned that your passion has to carry you through each day because it's not easy. People in this industry probably work the worst hours for the pay they get. So go for it 100% if you absolutely love it! I just wanted to say that!

Anyways, classes have been pretty smooth this week. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun in the directing and the music class. Our music teacher is going to bring in Adrian Pasdar and Greg Grunberg from Heroes (and maybe Hugh Laurie!) to class as guest speakers. They're in a band called Band From TV and they play covers to raise money for charity. It's a really cool idea! They also recently performed on The Tonight Show.

Sadly, I heard this song on The Hills, but I really like it:

8 AM classes? pshhh.

It's still January and I'm already so tired. Working full days with classes on top is definitely a challenge. My 2 classes are 3 hours long on Monday and my other class is split to 1 hour each on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Sleeping at 10 PM is so amazing! I'll never complain about 8 AM classes anymore. That seems so easy right now compared to working for no money :P.

This weekend is kind of gloomy which makes me not want to do anything. The rain makes for a badly needed car wash though.

In other news, I saw George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Howie Mandel, Zachary Levi, and Kyra Sedgwick all in one day at work. It's a little crazy to be walking around with all these celebs but I think I'm getting used to it. Except for George...I was still awed.

This weekend is all going to be about homework, internship journals, and catch up on sleep!

My sister, some friends, and I went to an outdoor skating rink by the beach in Santa Monica! It was pretty awesome:

Reporting from Sunny LA:

Hey everyone! I'm back to blogging for a new semester in a new state! That's right...I'm in the Governator's state of California participating in the UTLA program. This program is all about helping students get into the entertainment industry through internships and classes. I currently have 2 internships with a television show and a film production company. It's going to be a lot of work especially with classes on top of that. By the end of the semester, I'll hopefully know if I want to go the route of becoming a producer. I'm also planning on staying here for the summer to fulfill my marketing internship credit with another couple of companies in mind. I'm going to go all out and hopefully get something in return!

The classes I'm taking sound pretty interesting:

1. The Creative Process of TV and Film - This class is going to cover the whole development process of a script to production.
2. How the Music Industry Works - It'll cover everything from writing songs to marketing/promotions.
3. Topics in Entertainment - This class is split into 3 different topics: Directing Feature Films, Post Production and Editing, and Acting.

I'm taking these classes as my upper-division non-business electives. I actually only need two so I could potentially pass/fail one of them. We'll see how they go!

I hope everyone has a great start this semester. It definitely feels weird that all my friends are back in Austin while I'm 1500 miles away. I'll definitely miss everyone there! Keep me updated with Austin life, or if you have any questions about UTLA or the entertainment industry...leave me a comment!

Oh and the pictures on the right were shot by my sister this past weekend! We went to Malibu and Pepperdine University to get some of those shots.

PS. This clip is hilarious...see if you can spot yours truly dancing at 2:33. ;)
